What We Think We Become by Durgesh Satpathy
I am a true believer of “What we think we become”. This theory/concept is known since eternity and hundreds of books are written, documentaries & movies are made around it, but seeing an Indian author writing a short and concise book caught my attention.
Page Count: 126 pages

Publication Date: December 20th, 2018
It started with a high but ended with a series of disappointments. The author who has already published two books had really good content for his third book but screwed up badly with his language and storytelling. His language is raw and the book is full of grammatical mistakes. His sentence formations are horrible. Actually, it’s not his fault, being Indian we grow up learning multiple languages but fail to master one. So, when it comes to documenting our thoughts in English, which is not our 1st language, we end up translating our emotions/ thoughts word to word losing the context.
For instance, my mother tongue is Bengali, but I was raised in a Hindi(language) dominated state & currently living in a state where Marathi is the native language. Many times, I end up forming sentences which sound correct in my mind (which mostly thinks in Hindi or Bengali) but are grammatically wrong in English.
So back to the book, I really liked the way he has created his Index (mentioned as content). It gives you a gist of the chapter before you start reading. Chapters are short & crisp with proper diagrams & graphics making it easy for a reader to understand. He has also covered psychometric assessments & vision boards which are useful. His “Pause & Pounder” section at the end of each chapter is also very thoughtful. However, examples & plots are irrelevant & seem out of context.
I appreciate his effort & what he is trying to do with his “writing to serve humanity” but his writing needs a good editor. An editor who can transform his thoughts & content into a good read.
It’s a 2 star for me out of 5, just for the topic & content he picked.
My Rating: 2/5 stars
