Book Review of ‘VOYAGES Volume I: A Collection of Poetry’ by Debjeet Mukherjee

The poems were beautifully worded, Simple yet alluring. The poems speak to its readers in so many languages. Some of them struck a chord with me.

Page count: 91 pages

Publisher: Notion Press

Publication Date: September 5th, 2018

Voyages Volume I – A Collection of Poetry is spread across 91 pages. We get to see the journey of Author Debjeet as a writer from 2011, at the age of fourteen, to 2018, at the age of twenty-one, in these poems, hence the name ‘Voyages Volume I – A Collection of Poetry’.

The book has a collection of Forty(40) poems. Each poetry resonates with readers and each poetry has a different theme and speaks of emotions unspoken: from the loneliness of aching heart to romance to heartbreak to the reflection if humanity.

Voyages Volume I – A Collection of Poetry’ is coming of age experience of Debjeet, which every reader can connect to especially young readers.

My Favourites are:

  • Prayers Alive in Hope
  • My Balloon Girl
  • Some Moments at the train station
  • Oneness in pages
  • Wings to Swing
  • Earth, Soul & the flower
  • To Bear Not nothing
  • Reminiscence

What I really liked about the book was that how every poem ended with a footnote. This made reading and grasping the essence of emotions in the poem very easy for the new readers.

Though some poems were quite okayish. And some I did not like at all but I guess no book is perfect.

The language used in these poetries is very easy and crisp. If you are thinking of reading poems for the first time, then start with ‘Voyages Volume I – A Collection of Poetry’.

My Rating: 3/5 stars
