The Panchatheertha Part 1 by Rajiv Mittal

Since I have joined ‘The world of Book reviewing’, I have hardly come across satirical books, which had me in stitches or they gave me food for thought.

Opening Lines: Once upon a time, King Amarasakti ruled the city-state of Mahilaropyam in the south of India.

Page Count: 352 pages

Publisher: Independently Published

Publication Date: November 22nd, 2018

The Panchatheertha Part 1, is a satirical take on Panchatantra. Panchatantra, which has been an important part of growing up. I, in fact still have a Hindi and English version of the copy with me.

30-40 pages in, and I knew that this book held a laughter gas so potent that I will be rendered speechless at the end of it.

The Panchatheertha Part 1, has 27 moral stories pieced together to form a book full of mind-blowing imagination and absurd hilarity. The book revolves around various animals, with humane vices and emotions.

Readers would form an instant connection with stories and the characters as they tell tallest of nostalgia but with a humorous twist.

Author Rajiv has an amazing sense of humor, which can be clearly seen from his writing style. I think I’ll have to read more of him to figure out how he executes his narratives so well.

With impeccable narrative style, the book’s effectiveness lies in the way it’s told, sharpened for maximum impact on one’s senses.

I would say don’t rush into reading this book, because it has to be read slowly, laughed heartily kind of book. Though at some places the story or rather stories confused me a bit, but as they say ‘There is no book as perfect as a reader’s eyes deem it to be’ and it’s a perfect read for me because it made me laugh and took me to the nostalgia lane of my childhood.

Do I recommend this book?

Yes, if you want to go on a journey of your childhood with laughter on your face then this is the book for you… apt for all ages but not kids.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

The writing was a vague aspiration. It became a reality thanks to a stranger who said I reminded him of the main character from Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. He quoted from it, ‘Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.’
