The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz – Review
Freedom is important, but personal freedom is even more important. And the book works as a practical guide to personal freedom. It falls in the genre of self-help and personal growth.
My brother gifted the book to me and I wasn’t too sure about it. I read the brief and it talked about some principles to be followed. It was only when I reached halfway through the book, it started making a difference to me and showed altogether a new way to perceive life.
The book definitely leaves a powerful impact on you. The more you apply it in your life, the sooner you start noticing the results. There are intricate details to be assessed and applied to yourself. The book broadly talks about four agreements that you should make with yourself:-
- Be impeccable with your words
- Don’t take anything personally
- Don’t make assumptions
- Always do your best
It takes a strong will to adapt to the four agreements and more than that to break the old ones. It is a good read for all age groups but works only when you apply the principles one by one. Just thinking, talking, dreaming won’t get you anywhere, till the time you act on it.
The book holds the secret to become wise, wild and free again – like a child. It preaches you to put an end to the emotional pain that you have been living with and to open new doors and enjoy every moment of life to the fullest. It gives you the power to break the old agreements and generate more power for oneself in the process of transition. It is a slow process and you might need to revisit the book again and again, till the time it completely gets inherited in you.
The old embedded thoughts in our mind can make the process, the book, the lessons everything appear of not much importance. That’s the reason, one needs to go step by step, apply one agreement and break an old one simultaneously and then move on to the next. And surely make it an everyday habit instead of one in a lifetime.
