The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

The Alchemist takes us on the journey with Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who dreams about traveling around the globe in search of a treasure. He has a recurring dream that is interpreted by a Romani fortune-teller as a prophecy that says that the boy will discover a treasure at the Egyptian pyramids. In order to follow his dream, he starts his journey from his home to the markets of North Africa and then into the Egyptian desert. He encounters a lot of experiences from love to lose, gets deceived, earns money and learns different languages. He meets all kinds of people on his journey, he meets a king, a desert woman, and an alchemist. Every person he meets adds to his life and give it a new view. He often finds himself in difficult situations. The journey takes us on an adventure and is full of valuable lessons.

The book highly emphasizes valuable lessons of faith, hope, love, and spirituality using the power of symbolic narration. The story takes the journey of an ordinary boy with not so ordinary aspirations. It gives out positivity to its readers in a very effective way.

The Alchemist Book

“If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

The book is a bestseller and teaches the masses the lesson of positivity. It focuses on the wisdom of listening to our heart and following our dreams. But as much as it is to gain from the story it is not for everyone, the book is highly spiritual and often makes it difficult to believe in certain situations. At times the story seems monotonous and repetitive. People who are not spiritual or are a believer of practicality may not like how the story takes them to the conclusion. The readers can take a lot of things from the book irrespective of the fact that it is spiritual. If you are anyone with hopes and dreams, this book can help you believe in them. It clearly sends out the message that dreams need to be followed and life is meant to be lived. It makes you believe in destiny and that life has bigger plans that we at times can’t comprehend. No matter what life throws at you the best way is to accept it with positivity and hope.

I would highly recommend this book to people who are fond of Fiction/Philosophy genre.

I'm a writer with wings to my imagination. I love the essence of poetry & stories that convey a meaning. I have a thing for words and I like being surrounded by them in my head. I believe words create a story but your imagination brings out the meaning.
