Book Review of
Puma: Soldier’s Dog by Richa Kashyap
Firstly, this book is one of my favorites for 2019. I had never thought in my wildest dreams, that I am going to love a book that revolves around a dog!!! Point to note here is that I am freaking scared of Dog. So yeah my surprise, when I read this book.
It is a story of brave Indie Pup Puma Bhaskar.
Richa Kashyap’ debut work, is going to win you over and over again.
Blurb from the Book:
An indie pup, looking for food, enters a cantonment area one day. A pack of dogs, led by their vicious leader Sir Kattapa, thrash him for entering their territory. But the same night, he meets his Dadda and his life changes forever. Puma, as he is fondly called, then on, only dreams of becoming a soldier like his Dadda. A soldier whose aim is to save lives, not take lives. A sudden terrorist attack on his Dadda’s unit gives Puma a chance to prove his mettle. Puma’s journey of transforming into Commando Puma is a tale of adventure, fun, hard work, sacrifice, love, and hope.
Opening Lines: I was not born as Puma.
Page Counts: 240 pages
It is such a beautiful and a spiritual feeling to look at life through someone else’s eyes. Especially if that happens to be a dog.
I had not expected that the tale would reel me, rile me. As soon as I started reading it, I was twisted into knots and I was completely hooked to the book. I kept on reading until the wee hours of the morning. I was so enamored with the author’s narrative of this tale. The emotions were so strong and stark that I was overwhelmed and shattered. I had never wept so much.
Richa’s Puma: A Soldier’s Dog is an amazing book, full of gentleness, humor, and emotions that will move its readers, and written in the first person by Puma.
It is a lovely story, told from the doggo’s point of view, with Arjun as his Dadda (Primary Mentor). The Indie Pup offers a dog’s eye view of the Army Cantonment, the very famous parties, both Official and private. It also gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what being a part of Canine Officers Squad is like.
For me Reading this book was a Tail wagging experience.
Do I recommend this book?
Yes. This is a must-read book, for every human regardless of their age. It’s a light read, which will take you to an emotional roller-coaster ride to a doggo’s life. You will surely fall for the narrative and the simplicity of its language.
My Rating: 5/5 stars
