by Himanshu Rai
My mute Girlfriend revolves around Rohan a Telecom Engineer. This is a story of Love lost and found.
The story begins in the small town of Khatuli, Meerut in the year 2003. When Rohan gets a text message from his Long lost ex-girlfriend asking him to meet her, but somehow Rohan drops his Mobile from the top of the Tower and thus starts the Tale of happiness, confusion, and pain.
What’s the story about
Rohan takes us to the flashback of 1998, Oh, those beautiful 90s. When Rohan is preparing for an Engineering Entrance Test and is in love with his schoolmate Navya. The story unfolds slowly… After his exams results are out, he opts for college in Jabalpur, where he meets Vaidehi for the first time, and falls head over heels in love with her. Vaidehi, on the other hand, has an attitude the size of a football stadium and boys prefer to steer clear of her. But the simplicity in Rohan captures Vaidehi’s heart and she falls in love with him. Nothing mattered to him. Even his friends were pushed into the hazy background. Rohan always is in his happy world with Vaidehi, never thought his world would come crashing down. She stops talking to him, without the rhyme or reason. She becomes his mute Girlfriend.
What I think?
This story has all the elements of growing up, innocent teenage love, college life, ragging, and heartbreak. The book gives you a glimpse of the 90s when there was hardly any mobile. The book Kind of took me to the nostalgia lane of my growing up. Apart from that, the book has a strong storyline, but the narration was a bit lame. The end was something that I hadn’t expected and it blew me off!
This book is for Teenagers. They would love it and would gobble up in no time.
