When the Author Shuchi Singh Kalra approached me to review her Book ‘A Cage of Desires’, I was apprehensive as I had never Read an Erotica from an Indian Author before and was worried how the story would pan out. My apprehensions were proven wrong. The Book turned out to be a very good read. The transition from one chapter to the next was smooth. The best part of the story is its pace and riveting subplots. There are a few intense intimate scenes, placed subtly in the story without disturbing the theme and pace of the novel. Enjoyed reading this book and feel that many women may relate to it. Shades of character development are awesome

The characterization of Renu is very apt as per the society of India. It seems like she is not just telling her own story but also giving a voice to many women like her trapped in ‘A Cage of Desire. Though I found her a bit weak and selfish, that’s just my perception.
‘A Cage of Desires’ is a bold, brilliant and intense book. The Story treasures a truckload of emotions and secrets. It is a story of Indian women bound tightly in shackles by the conventional Indian society. The story is mainly staged against the middle-class society of Lucknow, a city in North India.
The Protagonist Renu is married into a Conventional Indian Family. Her life revolves around her two kids, snobbish Father-in-law, and her loveless marriage.
Renu is married to her husband over fifteen years, but her husband’s love for her has dwindled away over the passing years. She battles with her lonely mundane life, craving for love, companionship and human touch from her husband.
Her solace comes in the form of Handsome and caring Tenant Arjun and falls in the dangerous web of love, desires, and deceit.
Whereas Maya – The Author of Bestseller Erotic novels. People go gaga over her books but the hidden side of this bright writer is that nobody knows who she is. Maya, Bound by chains of Indian conventions is scared to reveal her true self.
But author Shuchi’s character breaks those invisible shackles and follows their heart!
Kudos to the author for such a brilliant imagination! The journey of the Protagonist from a meek lost homemaker to a liberated, strong, and independent woman a (in the author’s words) ‘a glorious bird in the sky with fire in her soul and ferocity in her heart.’
It is a heady mix of love, lust, greed, betrayal, and secrets…read on to find out more.
